Even though you have a high-quality brush, it will still require proper cleaning. You want your brush to not only last, but you want it to be effective. Before you use your brush, dip it in water for a few moments, and then remove it. This will make it easier to clean your paintbrush.

Step-by-Step

• Massage excess paint out of your brush after you have finished painting.
• Fill a small plastic container with warm water, and rinse your brush inside the container. Dry the brush off with a soft cloth.
• Clean your paintbrush using soap – liquid or bar. Make sure you are gentle with the bristles. Rinse with water. Continue to do this until the water is free of paint.
• Use a wire brush to remove any paint that will not come off your paintbrush. Be gentle and rinse after combing.

Timing is Everything

If you are in the middle of painting, never leave your brush lying around if it has paint in it. The paint can dry and cause you to ruin the paint job once it is finished. If you are going to be away from your brush for 5 minutes, wrap the brush up to keep air from getting to it; however, if you will be gone for an hour or so, clean your paintbrush entirely before leaving the room.
